Testimonial: Patagonia

A testimonial about my all-time favourite brand.. and yes, I'll tell you why it is ..

I remember my first fleece pullover, A black Patagonia fleece which I unfortunately left behind in the Austrian Alps, during my very first alpine climbing course in the Kasseler Hutte.
Back down in the Zillertaler valley, I realized I had left my warm black friend at  2274 metres of altitude and there was no way I could get hold of them. I could only wish for someone to find it, wear it well, and maybe still does ??!! After that dreadful event I bought a black sleeveless vest with a windstopper. Although I had no money to spend, yet I wanted THAT Patagonia vest! I believe it was a brand new item at the time. It has a zippered pocket at the back. I think it is still sold nowadays, with some alterations, especially at the neckline, since it is (and was) far to wide.  I'm quite sure I bought this vest in 1995 (!)  and yes, I still have it and always wear it when on I'm on my way in the outdoors… hiking, camping, biking. I must have a an early picture of it somewhere, with me wearing it on a train station somewhere in the Austrian alps. That was a long time before (my) digital camera life started, so for now, here's a proof of life for my all-time favorite garment .. in 2011 in the French Alps with my kids..

Since I've started my bag brand RAGZ NL, I've been wondering what a GREEN design is. I realized while reading the stories about environmentalism at Patagonia.com ,that this idea of a Green product  goes way beyond than just what it is made of. I decided that for me, one of the main things for a green design to be environmental friendly, is a product that lasts. It is not trendy, or as we say in Dutch: HIP, yet it's ageless beauty and timeless design makes you want wear it, at the age of 16 and still at 35 :). With my bags made of undyed wool felt and leather, I can offer a product that works, lasts for years to come, regardless the trending fashion colors or IT bag.
So here's my 100% support for Patagonia! Thanks for inspiring me all these years and for making such lovely products!

Annemieke
